How I Organize Every Cabinet In My Kitchen usually starts with a big sigh and, honestly, a bit of a mess. Ever opened a cabinet to have plastic containers rain down on you? Yeah, been there (more than once). But over time—lots of trial and error—I’ve found a few secrets that actually keep my cabinets tidy (mostly). If you’re tired of digging for spices or constantly shifting pans to find a single lid, trust me, you’re in the right spot. If tackling kitchen chaos on a weekend sounds good, check out these budget-friendly tips and maybe treat yourself to some sausage egg breakfast rolls while you reorganize.
How to Declutter and Thoughtfully Arrange Items
- Start small. Choose one cabinet at a time (no sense making your whole kitchen look like a tornado hit).
- Be ruthless—if you’ve got chipped mugs you don’t love or super old food you’ll never eat, out they go.
- Put the stuff you always reach for (coffee, favorite spices, peanut butter) right up front. Trust me—saves heaps of time.
- Anything you use less often can go up higher or in the back.
- It’s amazing how much you can let go of once you realize you don’t even miss it.
“Following just the first tip from this post, my cabinets finally make sense. I found pasta sauces from 2020 hiding in the back—and finally tossed them. Game changer!” —A. Smith
Utilize Vertical Space and Shelf Risers
- If you’re like me (pretty short), stacking’s your best friend. Shelf risers basically doubled my storage!
- Try stacking plates, bowls, and even cans with those cheap metal risers—found mine for under $10 locally.
- Hanging racks on cabinet doors? Lifesaver for pot lids and measuring spoons.
- Don’t ignore the inside of doors; hooks are golden for oven mitts or small tools.
Implement First In, First Out Method for Food Storage
- Basically, you eat the older stuff first. It’s simple, but wow—less food waste.
- Keep new groceries behind the old ones. Push, then fill—so you’ll actually use what you bought last week.
- Label things if you’re forgetful (guilty here)—masking tape and a date work fine.
- This trick is especially helpful for snacks and canned goods. No more mystery expiration dates!
Use Clear Bins for Better Visibility
- I swear by those plastic bins. I got mine at a dollar store (total score!).
- Cereal, snack bars, random soup packets—all look neater in bins (plus, you see when you’re running low).
- Try grouping ingredients for quick meals. Like, a “taco night bin” or “baking stuff” bin—super handy.
- If you’ve got kids (or roommates who act like kids), bins help everyone find stuff fast.
Create a Cohesive Look by Grouping Similar Items
- Let’s be real: a jumbled cabinet looks wild. Stack like with like—mugs together, pasta near pasta, baking stuff one spot.
- Not saying you need that five-star restaurant look, just…a little less chaos, more calm.
- Label shelves if it helps (mine are handwritten and slightly crooked, but hey, it counts).
- If you want some Pinterest vibes, decant pantry staples into matching jars. Or don’t—function first!
