Boneless Pork Chops

honey garlic pork chops are my go to answer for those nights when I open the fridge and immediately regret not meal prepping. You know the vibe, everyone is hungry, you are tired, and takeout is calling your name. This recipe saves me because it feels a little special, but it is honestly quick and very doable. The sauce is sticky, sweet, and garlicky in that way that makes you want to swipe the pan with a piece of bread. If you have pork chops and a few pantry staples, you are basically set.

Why This Honey Garlic Pork Chops Recipe Is a Winner

I have cooked pork chops a lot of ways, and this is the one I come back to when I want the most flavor for the least effort. The sauce comes together fast and it makes plain pork chops taste like you actually planned dinner.

Here is why it works so well:

It is fast. Most of the time, you are done in about 20 minutes, including the sauce.

It uses simple ingredients. Honey, garlic, butter, a splash of soy sauce or broth, and you are already halfway there.

It feels restaurant-ish. That glossy sauce looks fancy even if you are wearing sweatpants, which is usually me.

Also, if you love the sweet savory thing, you should absolutely try this easy Christmas ham glaze with brown sugar and honey. It hits a similar cozy note and it is super handy around holidays or brunchy weekends.

What Cut of Pork Chop Is Best for Pan Searing?

I have used a few kinds, and you can make this recipe work with almost any pork chop, but some are easier to keep juicy than others.

If you are shopping and you want the simplest win, grab bone in pork chops that are about 1 inch thick. The bone helps protect the meat from drying out, and that thickness gives you time to get a good sear without overcooking the center.

Here is a quick breakdown:

Bone in rib chops: My favorite. Tender and flavorful.

Boneless loin chops: Leaner, so they can dry out faster. Still great if you watch the cook time.

Shoulder chops: More marbled and flavorful, sometimes a little tougher, but delicious with sauce.

One more thing, try to avoid super thin chops for this. They cook so fast that you barely have time to build flavor before they are done. If thin chops are all you have, just sear quickly and keep the sauce time short.

What Makes the Perfect Honey Garlic Sauce?

The best sauce is all about balance. You want sweet from the honey, punch from the garlic, salt to keep it from tasting flat, and a little richness to make it cling to the pork chops.

I keep it simple, but here is what matters most:

Honey: This is your sweetness and your sticky finish. Use whatever you have.

Garlic: Fresh is best here. Jar garlic works in a pinch, but fresh tastes brighter.

Butter: Makes the sauce smooth and gives it that silky vibe.

Soy sauce or broth: Soy sauce brings salty depth. Broth keeps it mellow. Sometimes I do a bit of both.

Optional splash of vinegar or lemon: If your honey is very sweet, a tiny splash wakes everything up.

If you are the kind of person who likes sauces for dipping too, you might be into this easy Chick Fil A sauce copycat honey mustard. Totally different flavor, but it is another one of those sweet savory staples that disappears fast in my house.

Tips for Juicy Pan-Seared Pork Chops Every Time

This is the part that turns “fine” pork chops into “wow, make that again” pork chops. I learned these the hard way, mostly by overcooking them back when I thought pork needed to be cooked to the point of sadness.

Pat the pork chops dry before seasoning. If they are wet, they steam instead of sear.

Do not skip the preheat. You want the skillet hot so you get that golden crust.

Season generously. Salt and pepper go a long way, and you can add paprika or garlic powder too.

Let them rest. Just a few minutes on a plate helps the juices settle back in.

And my most important tip: use a thermometer if you can. Pork chops are best when they hit 145 F in the thickest part, then rest. That keeps them juicy and safe to eat.

I made these for my picky teenager and he actually said, “This is really good” and went back for more. That basically counts as a five star review in my house.

How Long to Cook Pork Chops in a Skillet?

This depends on thickness and whether your chops are bone in or boneless. But here is a realistic guide that works for most home kitchens.

For 1 inch thick pork chops on medium high heat:

• Bone in: about 4 to 5 minutes per side
• Boneless: about 3 to 4 minutes per side

Then you will usually add the honey garlic sauce and simmer everything for another 1 to 2 minutes, just long enough for the sauce to thicken and coat the meat.

If your chops are thicker than 1 inch, reduce the heat a bit after searing and give them a couple extra minutes, or finish them covered for a short time. If they are thinner, cut the time down and watch closely. The goal is juicy, not tough.

Can You Make Honey Garlic Pork Chops Ahead of Time?

Yes, with a small disclaimer. Pork chops are best fresh because that sear is at its crispiest right out of the pan. But you can still make honey garlic pork chops ahead and enjoy them later without ruining dinner.

My favorite “ahead” plan is this:

Cook the pork chops until just done, make the sauce, and store them separately if you can. When you reheat, warm the sauce gently and then add the pork back in just long enough to heat through. This keeps the pork from getting overcooked.

You can also prep ingredients ahead:

Minced garlic in a small container, measured honey, and a quick seasoning mix. That way you are basically doing a weeknight speed run when it is time to cook.

What to Serve With Honey Garlic Pork Chops

For me, the side dishes are all about soaking up that sauce. It is sweet and garlicky and you will not want to waste a drop.

Here are a few easy pairings:

• Mashed potatoes or buttery rice for maximum sauce absorption
• Roasted green beans or asparagus for something fresh
• A simple side salad if you want dinner to feel lighter
• Roasted veggies with crispy edges, especially Brussels sprouts

If you love Brussels sprouts, this one is so good with pork: easy hot honey Brussels sprouts that are crispy and caramelized. The sweet heat is a fun contrast with the honey garlic sauce.

And if you are planning a bigger pork night and want something different for the weekend, I also really like this deliciously easy cranberry apple stuffed pork loin recipe. It is festive, but still very doable.

How to Store and Reheat Pork Chops

Store leftover pork chops in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 to 4 days. I like to spoon extra sauce over the top before storing because it helps keep the meat from drying out.

For reheating, gentle is the name of the game:

• Skillet: Add a splash of water or broth, warm on low, and flip once or twice until heated through.
• Microwave: Cover loosely and heat in short bursts. Add a little sauce or water first so it stays moist.
• Oven: Cover with foil at 300 F until warm. This is slower but keeps texture nicer than blasting in the microwave.

Try not to reheat until it is piping hot for a long time. That is when pork chops go from juicy to chewy.

Frequently Asked Questions About Honey Garlic Pork Chops

Can I use chicken instead of pork chops?

Yes. Chicken cutlets or thighs work great. Just cook to the right temperature and keep the sauce the same.

My sauce is too thin. How do I thicken it?

Let it simmer for an extra minute or two. If you are in a hurry, mix a tiny spoon of cornstarch with water and stir it in, then simmer briefly.

Can I make these honey garlic pork chops without soy sauce?

Totally. Use broth plus a pinch of salt. You can also use coconut aminos if you have it.

What temperature should pork chops be when done?

Aim for 145 F in the thickest part, then rest a few minutes. That rest time matters more than people think.

Why did my pork chops turn out dry?

Usually it is overcooking or using very lean chops that are too thin. Next time, go a little thicker, lower the heat after searing, and pull them off the heat at 145 F.
