Witch hat cookies

Easy Halloween Witch Hat Cookies Oreo Point is my go to fix for that moment when you promised cute Halloween treats and then realized you have almost no time. I have totally been there, standing in the kitchen with a bag of candy and a sleeve of Oreos, hoping something magical happens. The good news is it can, because these little witch hats are basically assembly not baking. They look festive, they are kid friendly to make, and they disappear fast at parties. If you want a Halloween snack that feels special without a big mess, this is it.

Creative OREO Halloween Cookie Ideas

Let me tell you why I love this idea so much. You get that classic Oreo crunch, plus a chocolate kiss on top, and a little pop of color from the hat band. They look like tiny witch hats, but the best part is you can make a whole tray in under 20 minutes once you get rolling.

What you will need for witch hat cookies

• OREO cookies, regular or double stuf
• Chocolate kisses or any cone shaped chocolate
• Melting wafers or chocolate chips for glue
• Mini M and Ms, sprinkles, or icing for the band
• Parchment paper and a spoon or small piping bag

Here is my simple method. Lay the Oreos on parchment. Melt a small amount of chocolate in the microwave in short bursts, stirring every time. Add a small dot to the center of each Oreo and press a chocolate kiss on top. Then add one mini M and M or sprinkle strip on the front like a band.

If you are already in an Oreo mood, you should also check out this creamy dessert I make when I need something scoopable for a crowd: easy Oreo poke cake cookies and cream dessert. It pairs so well with a cookie tray.

Little creative twists I have tried:

Use orange melting wafers for the glue so the band looks extra bright. Swap the kiss for a mini peanut butter cup, then pipe a little peak with frosting to still get the hat shape. Or drizzle green chocolate over the whole top for a witchy vibe.

“I made these with my daughter the night before her class party and they turned out adorable. They were the first thing gone from the snack table.”

Tips for Customizing Your Halloween Cookies

Once you make Easy Halloween Witch Hat Cookies Oreo Point the first time, you will immediately want to customize them. It is kind of addictive because one small change makes the whole tray look different.

My favorite easy swaps:

Cookie base: Use golden Oreos for a lighter look, or the orange Halloween Oreos if you can find them. If you use flavored Oreos like mint, the whole cookie suddenly feels more grown up.

Hat band: Mini M and Ms are the simplest. But you can also use a thin strip of fruit roll up, a line of gel icing, or a pinch of jimmies. If you have black sanding sugar, it looks spooky and neat.

Chocolate top: Standard kisses are classic, but any small cone candy works. I even used those caramel kisses once and people kept asking what the flavor was.

When I want the bands to look super clean, I use a frosting that sets up instead of staying sticky. This is the one I rely on: delicious buttercream frosting for cookies that hardens perfectly. A tiny swipe is all you need.

One more fun idea if you are making a whole Halloween spread is to mix these hats with another themed Oreo treat. I love these because they are creepy but still cute: creepy crawly Oreo spider Halloween snacks. The combo on a platter looks like you tried way harder than you did.

Easy Halloween Cookie Decorating Techniques

Decorating sounds like the part that will slow you down, but it really does not have to. For Easy Halloween Witch Hat Cookies Oreo Point, the “decorating” is mostly just placing one or two little details before the chocolate sets.

My no stress decorating routine

I set up an assembly line. Oreos first, then kisses, then bands. If you are working with kids, give them the band job and you do the hot chocolate part. Everyone stays happy that way.

Here are a few quick techniques that make them look polished without fancy tools:

Use a toothpick: Dip the tip in melted chocolate and dot tiny “buckles” on the band. It is weirdly satisfying.

Make a clean band line: If you are piping icing, let it sit for a minute, then gently press a sprinkle strip into it. Less mess on fingers.

Add a drizzle: A thin drizzle of white chocolate over the hat makes it pop, especially on a darker serving plate.

If your melted chocolate starts to thicken, microwave it for 5 seconds and stir. Chocolate is dramatic like that, but it comes back around.

Also, if you want another cookie project for non Halloween days that still feels fun and snacky, I am obsessed with these: deliciously easy Biscoff sandwich cookies. Different vibe, same easy assembly energy.

Fun Ways to Serve OREO Cookies at Parties

Serving is where you can really sell the whole witch theme. Easy Halloween Witch Hat Cookies Oreo Point already look adorable, so you just need a simple setup that lets them shine.

My favorite party ideas:

Cookie “hat shop” tray: Put the hats on one side and a bowl of extra sprinkles and candies on the other, so kids can decorate a couple themselves.

Mini treat bags: Slip two or three hats into clear bags and tie with orange ribbon. Great for school parties where you need individual portions.

Cupcake topper moment: Place one hat on top of a frosted cupcake right before serving. It turns basic cupcakes into a themed dessert fast.

If you are planning a bigger dessert table and want something creamy and chill next to the cookies, I have made this more times than I can count: easy Oreo poke cake cookies and cream dessert. It is the kind of thing people hover over with a spoon.

One more tip, use a dark platter or a wood board. The black cookie stands out and the colors look brighter in photos.

Halloween Cookie Safety and Storage Tips

These are super simple, but a little storage know how keeps them looking neat. The top chocolate can pop off if they get jostled around, so I treat them like delicate little hats.

Let them set first: Give the cookies at least 20 to 30 minutes to fully set at room temp. If your kitchen is warm, pop the tray in the fridge for 10 minutes.

How to store: Put them in a single layer in an airtight container. If you must stack, place parchment between layers and do not press down.

How long they last: They stay fresh about 4 to 5 days at room temperature, and a bit longer in the fridge. The Oreo stays crunchy either way, but the fridge can sometimes cause a little condensation when you bring them out, so keep them covered until serving.

Food safety note: If you are using homemade frosting or anything dairy based for decoration, store them in the fridge and serve within a couple of days. And if you are making these for a school party, check for nut allergies depending on the candies you choose.

Common Questions

Can I make these ahead of time?

Yes. I usually make them the night before. Easy Halloween Witch Hat Cookies Oreo Point hold up really well as long as they are stored in a container with a snug lid.

What if I do not have melting wafers?

Chocolate chips work. Melt them gently and stir well. If they seem thick, a tiny bit of coconut oil can help smooth them out.

Why are my kisses sliding off?

Usually the chocolate dot was too small or it was still too warm and runny. Use a slightly bigger dot and hold the kiss in place for a couple seconds.

Can I do this without candy for the band?

Absolutely. Pipe a thin line of frosting or gel icing. You can even use colored sugar pressed into the chocolate dot around the base of the kiss.

Are these okay for a cookie swap?

Yes, just transport them in a single layer if you can. They are sturdier than they look, but the hat tops can pop off if the container slides around.
