One-Skillet Dinner

Easy Chicken Lazone — Creamy Cajun Pasta is my go to dinner for those nights when I open the fridge, feel tired, and still want something that tastes like I tried. You know the vibe: you want comfort food, but you do not want a sink full of dishes or a recipe with 27 steps. This one hits that sweet spot with juicy chicken, a warm Cajun kick, and a creamy sauce that clings to the pasta in the best way. It is fast enough for a weeknight, but it feels a little fancy when you plate it up. If you have picky eaters, you can even dial the spice up or down without losing the flavor.

What is Chicken Lazone?

Chicken Lazone is a simple skillet chicken dish that got famous for its creamy, lightly spicy sauce. The chicken is usually seasoned with a Cajun style blend, quickly cooked, then finished in a cream sauce that picks up all those browned bits from the pan. It is not complicated, which is honestly why I love it.

I first had something like it at a small restaurant years ago, and I still remember how the sauce tasted like comfort with a little attitude. At home, I make it even more practical by turning it into pasta night. You get that rich sauce stretched out over noodles, and suddenly everyone is quiet at the table. That is the real sign of a good recipe.

Why You’ll Love Chicken Lazone

This is one of those recipes that feels like a little reward at the end of the day. It is bold, creamy, and comes together fast, even if you are not feeling super motivated to cook.

• Quick cooking: you can pull this off in about 30 minutes if you stay close to the stove.
• Big flavor, simple ingredients: nothing weird, nothing hard to find.
• Easy to customize: go mild for kids, or add more Cajun seasoning if you like heat.
• One pan sauce: the sauce is made right in the same skillet, which means more flavor and fewer dishes.

Also, it is a great recipe for feeding people who like different things. Someone wants extra sauce? Done. Someone wants less spice? Easy. Someone wants more protein? Add extra chicken. No drama.

“I made this for my family and my husband said it tasted like restaurant pasta. The sauce was smooth and not too spicy, and my kid asked for seconds. This is going in our regular dinner rotation.”

How to Make Chicken Lazone

Here is how I make Easy Chicken Lazone — Creamy Cajun Pasta at home without overthinking it. I keep it simple, and I focus on two things: do not overcook the chicken, and do not rush the sauce.

Ingredients you will need

• 1 pound chicken breast or thighs, sliced into thin strips
• 8 to 10 ounces pasta (penne, fettuccine, or linguine are great)
• 2 tablespoons butter
• 2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning (start here, add more later if you want)
• 1 teaspoon garlic powder
• 1 teaspoon onion powder
• Salt and pepper, to taste
• 1 cup heavy cream
• 1/2 cup chicken broth (or water in a pinch)
• Optional: 1/3 cup grated Parmesan
• Optional: chopped parsley for topping

Step by step directions

1) Boil your pasta in salted water and cook it until it is just tender. Save about 1/2 cup of pasta water before draining. That little trick can rescue the sauce later.

2) While the pasta cooks, toss the chicken strips with Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, and a pinch of salt and pepper.

3) Heat a large skillet over medium high heat. Melt the butter, then add the chicken. Let it cook in a single layer as much as possible. Cook for about 3 to 4 minutes per side, depending on thickness. You want it browned and cooked through, but still juicy.

4) Turn the heat to medium. Pour in the chicken broth and scrape up the browned bits. That is where a lot of flavor lives.

5) Add the cream and stir. Let it gently bubble for a few minutes until it thickens slightly. If you are using Parmesan, add it now and stir until smooth.

6) Toss in the drained pasta and stir until everything is coated. If the sauce feels too thick, add a splash of pasta water until it looks silky.

7) Taste and adjust. Sometimes I add a tiny extra pinch of Cajun seasoning right at the end for a fresher kick.

Tips for a Silky Cajun Cream Sauce

This sauce is the whole reason Easy Chicken Lazone — Creamy Cajun Pasta is such a repeat recipe for me. Cream sauces can be easy, but they can also get weird if the heat is too high or if you forget to stir. Here is what actually helps.

Little things that make a big difference

Keep the heat friendly. Once the cream goes in, medium heat is your best friend. If it boils hard, it can reduce too fast and feel heavy.

Use broth for balance. The chicken broth keeps the sauce from being just straight cream. It also helps you scrape up the browned bits, which makes the flavor deeper.

Do not skip tasting at the end. Cajun seasoning brands vary a lot. Some are saltier, some are spicier. I always taste once the pasta is in, then adjust.

Pasta water is magic. If the sauce tightens up while it sits (it happens), add a splash of warm pasta water and stir. It brings back that smooth texture.

Also, if you ever want a slightly lighter pasta night with a classic combo, this one is great: Easy Chicken and Broccoli Pasta. It is a nice change of pace, especially when you want something green on the plate.

What to Serve with Chicken Lazone

I usually serve Easy Chicken Lazone — Creamy Cajun Pasta as a full meal because it is already rich and satisfying. But if you want to round it out, think fresh, crisp, and simple. The creamy sauce loves something on the side that feels light.

• Simple salad with lemony dressing or vinaigrette
• Garlic bread if you want to lean into comfort food mode
• Roasted broccoli or green beans for a no fuss veggie
• Fresh tomatoes with a little salt if you want something bright and juicy

If I am making this for friends, I set out extra Parmesan, chopped parsley, and red pepper flakes. People love customizing their bowl, and it makes dinner feel fun without extra work for you.

Common Questions

Can I use milk instead of heavy cream?

You can, but it will be thinner and less rich. If you use milk, try stirring in a little Parmesan and let it simmer gently to help it thicken.

How spicy is Chicken Lazone?

It depends on your Cajun seasoning. Start with a smaller amount, taste the sauce, and build heat slowly. You can always add more, but you cannot take it out.

What pasta works best?

Fettuccine and linguine feel extra cozy, but penne is great because it catches the sauce inside the tubes. Use what you have.

Can I make it ahead?

Yes. Store it in the fridge, then reheat gently with a splash of broth or water. Cream sauces tighten up, so that extra liquid helps bring it back.

What is the best chicken to use?

Thighs stay super juicy, but breasts work well if you slice them thin and do not overcook them. Either one is totally fine.
