Ever feel like kitchen grease has a personal vendetta against you? Yeah, me too. I swear, every time I whip up a delicious Thanksgiving spatchcock turkey or toss together those ooey-gooey easy turtle bars, my stove ends up looking like a five-star restaurant dumpster. So, here are my 7 Weird Dish Soap Tricks That Still Work on the Toughest Grease (yes, really), because trust me—nothing else gets my pans clean after a festive cooking marathon. Let’s get into the weird, the wild, and honestly, the stuff you wish you knew sooner.
Scent: Not Just for Smells
Okay, let’s start with the obvious: dish soap scent can make or break your entire washing mood.
- Citrus scents slice right through greasy messes (and they perk you up, weirdly enough).
- Lavender can be super soothing if you’re elbow-deep in suds after a rough day.
- Stay AWAY from too-strong or weirdly sweet scents—trust me, minty bacon residue isn’t cute.
I once tried a “holiday spice” dish soap. Oops—my casserole dish smelled like Christmas for a week. Just… stick with what works for you!
Ingredients & Scents
Let’s get scientific (well, a little): the magic’s in the ingredients.
- Strong stuff, like “degreasers” (look for citrus or vinegar), melt down the worst gunk.
- If you’re sensitive, pick something “gentle” or “plant-based”—your hands will thank you later.
- And don’t underestimate good ol’ baking soda added for extra cleaning power.
Weird side note: My grandma swears by adding a splash of white vinegar to her soap when she’s dealing with stubborn grease monsters. (She’s not wrong, honestly.)

Sometimes, plain dish soap just needs a buddy.
- Scrub brushes with built-in soap dispensers = genius for lazy folks like me.
- Try foaming pumps—makes soap go further, which your wallet will appreciate.
- And don’t forget, special grease-fighting sponges exist and they actually work.
Once I tried using a cloth napkin. Disaster. Just stick to real stuff, please.

How to Use Foaming Dish Spray {video_youtube}
Foaming dish sprays are everywhere right now (and no, this isn’t an ad).
- Spray directly onto gross stuff—don’t even bother with water first.
- Let it sit for a hot minute while you finish loading the dishwasher or scrolling TikTok.
- Wipe away with a damp cloth or sponge—no endless scrubbing needed.
Life-changing. Seriously. Makes sticky pans feel like non-stick.
Benefits of Foaming Dish Spray
Really, what’s the big deal with foaming dish sprays?
- Fast and easy (honestly, who’s got time to soak overnight?).
- Less scrubbing means happier hands, shorter chore time.
- Leaves less residue, so your next southern baked macaroni and cheese won’t taste faintly soapy.
And if you’re prone to burning, uh, everything—especially cheese—this stuff’s your new best friend.
Common Questions
Q: Does brand matter for dish soap when fighting grease?
A: Sometimes. Some off-brand bottles just move the grease around, but a few knockoff gems can surprise you!
Q: Can you use dish soap for more than dishes?
A: Yep! I use it on stove tops and even on greasy bacon trays (don’t come for me, but it works).
Q: What if I have sensitive skin?
A: Grab the “gentle,” plant-based, or unscented options. Or, just use gloves.
Q: Is it safe to mix dish soap with other cleaners?
A: BE CAREFUL. Vinegar, sure. Bleach? NO. Trust me, you don’t want to recreate a mad scientist experiment in your sink.
