Ingredients

Base Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
Topping Ingredients
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk (14 ounces) Do not substitute with evaporated milk.
  • 1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips Can swap part for chopped dark chocolate to reduce sweetness.
  • 1 cup shredded sweetened coconut Optional - can skip if preferred.
  • 3/4 cup chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts) Can replace with extra chocolate chips or crushed pretzels.
  • a pinch flaky sea salt Optional - helps balance sweetness.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9x13 inch metal baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy lifting.
  2. Melt the butter in the baking pan in the warm oven or in a small pan and pour it into the baking dish, then swirl to coat the bottom.
  3. Sprinkle graham cracker crumbs over the butter and press down firmly to create a level crust using a measuring cup.
Assembly
  1. Pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the crust, ensuring it reaches the edges.
  2. Layer with chocolate chips, coconut, and chopped nuts. If using, sprinkle a pinch of sea salt on top.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 22 to 28 minutes until the edges are golden and the center is set but still soft.
  2. Let cool in the pan on a rack until room temperature. For cleaner slices, chill for 30 minutes before cutting.

Notes

Use parchment overhang for easy removal. Don't overbake to maintain chewiness. Mix-ins can include peanut butter or white chocolate. Make a day in advance for better slicing.
