Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup Warm water, not hot Think baby bath warm
  • 2.25 teaspoons Active dry yeast (or instant yeast) Check the date and proof if unsure
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar Just a little to wake the yeast up
  • 1 cup Warm milk Warm is best for a soft dough
  • 1/4 cup Butter, melted Plus extra for brushing
  • 1 large Egg For richness and fluffiness
  • 1 teaspoon Salt Do not skip for flavor
  • 3-4 cups All-purpose flour Add gradually until dough is soft and slightly sticky

Method

Preparation
  1. Mix warm water, yeast, and a pinch of sugar. Wait about 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Stir in warm milk, melted butter, egg, salt, and the rest of the sugar.
  3. Add flour gradually and stir until it turns into a shaggy dough, then knead until smooth.
  4. Cover and let rise in a warm spot for 20 to 30 minutes until doubled.
  5. Shape into rolls, place in a buttered pan, and let them rise again for 15 minutes while the oven heats.
  6. Bake until golden, then brush with butter immediately after.

Notes

This dough is forgiving; if it feels dry, it might have too much flour. Always check yeast freshness and adjust flour for humidity. Store leftovers tightly covered and warm them briefly to revive.
