Ingredients

Brownie Base
  • 1 cup granulated sugar adds sweetness
  • 1 cup butter, melted provides moisture
  • 2 cups chocolate chips provides rich chocolate flavor
  • 4 large eggs acts as a binder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour gives structure
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract enhances flavor
Cream Cheese Layer (optional)
  • 1 package cream cheese, softened adds tanginess
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar sweetens the cream cheese
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract enhances flavor

Method

Preparation and Baking
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the melted butter and sugar until combined.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Stir in the chocolate chips and vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually fold in the flour until just combined.
  6. Pour half of the brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  7. In a separate bowl, mix together the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth, if using.
  8. Spread the cream cheese mixture over the brownie base.
  9. Add the remaining brownie batter on top and swirl gently with a knife.
  10. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with moist crumbs.
  11. Allow to cool before slicing into squares.

Notes

For best results, avoid overbaking to keep the brownies fudgy. Store in the refrigerator if they contain cream cheese, or in an airtight container at room temperature for others.
