Ingredients

Cookie ingredients
  • 1 stick Unsalted butter, softened If using salted butter, omit the pinch of salt.
  • 1/2 cup Sweetened condensed milk Do not substitute with evaporated milk.
  • 2 cups All-purpose flour Spoon and level into your measuring cup to avoid packing.
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract Adds warmth and aroma.
  • 1/2 cup Powdered sugar For rolling after baking. Double roll for extra sweetness.
Optional mix-ins
  • 1/2 cup Mini chocolate chips For a delightful addition.
  • 1/2 cup Finely chopped pecans or walnuts For added crunch.
  • 1/2 cup Shredded coconut For a tropical twist.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, cream together the softened butter and sweetened condensed milk until smooth and creamy.
  3. Add the vanilla and, if using, a pinch of salt. Slowly stir in the flour until a soft dough forms.
  4. If the dough is too sticky to roll, chill it in the fridge for about 15 minutes.
Baking
  1. Pinch off small amounts of dough and roll into 1-inch balls. Place them on the lined baking sheet with space between them.
  2. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the bottoms are lightly golden and the tops look set.
Coating
  1. While the cookies are still warm, roll them in a bowl of powdered sugar. Allow to cool on a wire rack.
  2. For a thicker coating, roll them in powdered sugar once more after cooling.

Notes

Cookies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. They can also be frozen for up to 2 months. Dough can be frozen as well; bake from frozen with an additional minute or two of cooking time.
