  • 1 box Stove Top stuffing mix (any flavor) Chicken flavor is recommended.
  • 1 to 1.5 pounds ground beef (80 to 85 percent lean) Ground turkey can be used as a substitute.
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup water or broth Broth adds extra flavor.
  • 1 small onion, finely diced Optional but recommended.
  • 1 to 2 cloves garlic, minced Optional.
  • 1/2 cup ketchup for topping Plus a little extra if desired.
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar Optional, for sweetness.
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce Optional.

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and lightly grease a loaf pan or line a baking sheet with foil.
  2. In a large bowl, stir the stuffing mix with water or broth and let it sit for about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the ground beef, eggs, onion, and garlic (if using) to the softened stuffing and mix gently by hand until combined.
  4. Press the mixture into the loaf pan or shape it into a freeform loaf on the baking sheet.
  5. Stir ketchup with brown sugar and Worcestershire sauce (if using) and spread it over the top of the meatloaf.
  6. Bake for about 50 to 60 minutes, until the center reaches 160 degrees F. Let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Letting the meatloaf rest is crucial for clean slices. Use a thermometer to ensure doneness.
