  • 1 pear, thinly sliced Bartlett or Bosc pears recommended.
  • 1 apple, thinly sliced Honeycrisp or Pink Lady apples recommended.

  1. Slice the bagels in half and butter the cut sides.
  2. Warm the bagels in a skillet over medium heat until they start to crisp.
  3. Layer sharp cheddar, thin pear and apple slices, and a scoop of caramelized onions on one half of each bagel.
  4. Top with another layer of cheddar, then the other bagel half.
  5. Press the sandwiches gently and let them cook until the cheese melts.
Caramelizing Onions
  1. Slice onions and add to a pan with a touch of oil or butter.
  2. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring every few minutes until golden and soft.
  3. Add a pinch of salt to enhance the caramelization.
  4. For faster caramelization, add a splash of water or apple cider.

Notes

Build the sandwich directly in the warm pan, starting with cheese to seal. Patience is key for melty cheese strings.
