Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb Ground beef or turkey Use ground beef for traditional flavor or turkey for a lighter option.
  • 1 small head Cabbage Roughly chopped.
  • 2 cups Cooked rice White or brown; leftovers work great.
  • 1 medium Onion Chopped, size doesn't need to be perfect.
  • 2-3 cloves Garlic Minced.
  • 1 can Canned diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup Tomato sauce
  • to taste none Salt and pepper Don't be shy with the salt.
  • to taste none Paprika or dill Optional for extra flavor.
  • a splash none Worcestershire sauce Optional.

Method
 

Cooking
  1. Heat a big pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Brown the ground beef or turkey until cooked through.
  2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pot, cooking until they become soft and fragrant.
  3. Stir in the chopped cabbage, diced tomatoes, and tomato sauce, mixing everything well.
  4. Add the cooked rice and season with salt, pepper, and paprika or dill to taste. Stir to combine.
  5. Cover the pot and simmer on low heat, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender (about 20-25 minutes).
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary before serving.

Notes

For a fancy touch, serve with sour cream and fresh herbs. This dish is even better the next day. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
