  • 8 slices Bread Choose thick slices like brioche, challah, or sourdough.
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons Nutella Adjust based on preference.
  • 3 large Eggs
  • 3/4 cup Milk Any kind works, dairy or non-dairy.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon Optional but recommended.
  • 1 pinch Salt Enhances sweetness.
  • Butter For greasing the pan.
For Serving
  • Powdered sugar For dusting.
  • Berries Fresh fruit of choice.
  • Bananas Sliced.
  • Maple syrup Optional.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Make Nutella sandwiches by spreading Nutella on one side of half the bread slices and topping with the other slices.
  2. Press the sandwiches together gently.
Custard Mixture
  1. In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
Assembling the French Toast
  1. Dip each sandwich into the egg mixture for a few seconds per side until coated, but not soaked.
Cooking
  1. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a bit of butter.
  2. Cook each sandwich for about 3 to 4 minutes per side until golden and crisp.
  3. If the sandwiches are browning too fast, lower the heat.

  1. Serve warm, sliced diagonally.
  2. Add toppings like powdered sugar, fruit, or syrup.

Notes

Let the Nutella sit for a minute before the first bite, especially for kids. For best results, use slightly stale bread and ensure it is thick enough to hold the filling.
