Ingredients
Method
Prepare the Olive Salad
- In a bowl, combine green olives, kalamata olives, giardiniera, roasted red peppers, capers, garlic, and parsley.
- Drizzle with olive oil and vinegar, then add oregano and black pepper. Mix well.
- Let the olive salad sit for at least 30 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
Assemble the Sandwich
- Slice the round loaf horizontally, hollowing out some interior to make room for fillings.
- Spread a generous layer of the Muffuletta Olive Salad on the bottom half of the bread.
- Layer provolone and mozzarella slices over the olive salad.
- Add thin slices of salami, mortadella, and ham on top.
- Spoon more olive salad on top of the meats.
- Replace the top half of the bread, wrap tightly in foil or plastic wrap.
- Place a sheet pan on top with something heavy (like a skillet) for 15 to 30 minutes, or refrigerate for a couple of hours for best results.
Notes
Muffuletta sandwiches taste even better after they have sat for a while, allowing the flavors to meld into the bread. This dish is perfect for sharing at parties and picnics.
