Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4 medium to large Sweet potatoes Pick similar sizes for even baking.
  • 4 tablespoons Butter Salted or unsalted, as preferred.
  • 1/4 cup Brown sugar Light or dark both work.
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon Optional; adds a restaurant-like flavor.
  • 1 pinch Salt To balance sweetness.
  • 1 cup Sour cream For topping.
  • 1 cup Shredded sharp cheddar Adjust based on personal preference.
  • 1/2 cup Cooked crumbled bacon Or use bacon bits for convenience.
  • 1/4 cup Chives or green onions For garnish.

Method

Baking the Sweet Potatoes
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Scrub and dry the sweet potatoes, then poke each one a few times with a fork.
  3. Place the sweet potatoes on a foil-lined sheet pan and bake for 45 to 60 minutes, or until easily pierced with a knife.
Mixing the Filling
  1. Once baked, let the sweet potatoes cool for 3 to 5 minutes, then slice each potato down the middle and fluff the inside with a fork.
  2. Add butter first to let it melt, followed by brown sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt.
Loading the Potatoes
  1. Top with sour cream, shredded cheddar, crumbled bacon, and chives.
  2. If desired, return to the oven for 2 to 3 minutes to melt the cheese.
  3. Serve immediately while hot.

Notes

Use Greek yogurt instead of sour cream for a lighter option. You can also skip the brown sugar for a more savory dish.
