Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 3 pounds Chuck roast Recommended cut of beef for optimal tenderness.
  • 1 cup Soy sauce Provides a savory base for the sauce.
  • 1/2 cup Brown sugar Adds sweetness to balance the flavors.
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger Freshly grated for best flavor.
  • 4 cloves Garlic Minced for a fragrant aroma.
  • 1 tablespoon Gochujang Optional for added heat.
  • 1 cup Beef broth For additional liquid and flavor.
Vegetables
  • 1 medium Onion Chopped; adds flavor to the roast.
  • 3 carrots Carrots Cut into chunks for sweetness and texture.
  • 3 stalks Celery Chopped; complements the other vegetables.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
  2. In a large Dutch oven, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, ginger, garlic, and gochujang.
  3. Place the chuck roast in the pot and sear it on all sides until browned.
  4. Remove the roast and sauté onions, carrots, and celery in the same pot until softened.
  5. Return the roast to the pot and add beef broth.
Cooking
  1. Cover the pot and place it in the oven.
  2. Cook for approximately 5 hours, or until the meat is tender and falls apart easily.
Serving
  1. Remove the roast from the oven and let it rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing.
  2. Serve with steamed rice and your choice of vegetables.

Notes

For best results, allow the beef to rest after cooking to enhance tenderness. Leftovers can be refrigerated for 3-4 days or frozen for longer storage. Reheat gently to avoid drying out the meat.
