Ingredients

Main ingredients
  • 1/2 cup popcorn kernels Regular yellow kernels work great.
  • 2 tablespoons neutral oil Canola, vegetable, or avocado oil.
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar Plain white sugar is the classic choice.
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine salt Fine salt helps stick better.
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon Optional, for extra flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a heavy pot with a lid, heat oil on medium heat.
  2. Add a couple of popcorn kernels to test the heat.
  3. Once those kernels pop, add the rest of the kernels and sugar.
  4. Cover the pot and shake every few seconds while it pops.
  5. When popping slows down, remove it from heat immediately and dump into a bowl.

Notes

Don't let the popcorn sit in the hot pot as it can lead to sticky clumps. For best results, keep shaking the pot to avoid burning the sugar.
