Ingredients
  

Pineapple preparation
  • 1 medium fresh pineapple Choose a ripe pineapple with a sweet smell.
Grilling ingredients
  • 1 tbsp olive oil For brushing the grill grates or the pineapple.
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar Optional, for caramelization.
  • 1 pinch sea salt To enhance flavor after grilling.
Optional glaze
  • 2 tbsp butter Melted for the glaze.
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar For the glaze, can also use honey or maple syrup.
  • 1 tsp cinnamon For added flavor in the glaze.
  • 1 tbsp spiced rum Optional, for a tropical glaze.
  • 1 tbsp lime juice Optional, for a zesty hint.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Start by cutting off the top and bottom of the pineapple and stand it upright.
  2. Slice the skin off in strips and remove the eyes with a small knife if desired.
  3. Cut the pineapple into spears or rings.
Grilling
  1. Preheat the grill to medium heat.
  2. Lightly oil the grill grates with olive oil or brush the pineapple spears with oil.
  3. Place the pineapple on the grill, ensuring they are not crowded.
  4. Grill for 2-3 minutes on each side until light grill marks appear.
  5. Optionally, brush the pineapple with the glaze just before grilling.
Serving
  1. Once grilled, sprinkle with sea salt and enjoy.

Notes

For best results, grill over medium heat and don’t rush the process. Optionally, serve with vanilla ice cream or as a topping on burgers, chicken, or pork tacos.
