Preparation
- Cut a hole in the center of the slice of bread using a small glass or cookie cutter.
- Heat a skillet on medium heat and add butter, letting it melt until foamy but not browned.
Cooking
- Place the bread in the pan to toast for about 30 to 60 seconds.
- Flip the bread, then crack the egg into the hole.
- Immediately sprinkle with salt and pepper.
- Cook for 1 to 2 minutes until the bottom is golden, then carefully flip the whole thing.
- Cook for another 30 to 90 seconds, depending on how runny you like the yolk.
- Toast the cut-out circle of bread in the pan as well.
Notes
Use medium heat to avoid burnt toast with raw egg. Thicker bread is easier to manage. Covering the pan can help the whites set faster.
