  • 8 oz Sushi grade tuna, diced into small cubes Ensure freshness and quality
  • 1.5 tbsp Soy sauce (or tamari) Adjust for taste
  • 1 tsp Toasted sesame oil For flavor enhancement
  • 1 tsp Rice vinegar (or squeeze of lime) Adds acidity
  • 0.5 tsp Honey or brown sugar For sweetness
  • 1 tbsp Sesame seeds (white, black, or both) For garnish
  • 2 stalks Green onions, sliced For flavor and garnish
  • 2 cups Cooked rice Short grain is classic, but use any kind
  • Optional toppings: avocado, cucumber, edamame, shredded carrots, seaweed salad, pickled ginger Customize as desired

Method

Preparation
  1. In a small bowl, stir together soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, and honey (or sugar). Add sesame seeds and most of the sliced green onion.
  2. If possible, chill the sauce in the fridge for 5 minutes.
  3. Pat the tuna dry with a paper towel and cut it into small cubes.
  4. Add the tuna to the sauce and gently stir to coat without mashing it.
Serving
  1. Serve the poke bowl by placing warm rice at the base and topping it with the tuna mixture.
  2. Garnish with remaining green onions and any desired toppings.

Notes

Use high-quality fish for the best taste. Let your rice cool slightly before adding tuna to prevent warming the fish. You can prep the sauce and toppings ahead of time.
