Method
Preparation
- In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit until foamy, about 5-10 minutes.
- Add melted butter, salt, egg, and flour gradually until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth and stretchy (about 5-7 minutes).
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm area until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
Shaping the Rolls
- Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 12-15 equal pieces.
- Shape each piece into a smooth ball by tucking the edges underneath.
- Place shaped rolls in a buttered baking dish, close together for pull-apart rolls or spaced for browner sides.
- Cover and let them rise until puffy, about 30-45 minutes.
Baking
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake the rolls for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown.
- Remove from oven and brush with melted butter while warm.
Notes
For flavor variations, try adding honey, garlic, or cheese. Rolls can be made ahead and frozen for convenience.
