  • 1 large egg Provides structure to rolls.
For Brushing
  • 2 tablespoons butter Melted, for brushing on baked rolls.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit until foamy, about 5-10 minutes.
  2. Add melted butter, salt, egg, and flour gradually until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth and stretchy (about 5-7 minutes).
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm area until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
Shaping the Rolls
  1. Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 12-15 equal pieces.
  2. Shape each piece into a smooth ball by tucking the edges underneath.
  3. Place shaped rolls in a buttered baking dish, close together for pull-apart rolls or spaced for browner sides.
  4. Cover and let them rise until puffy, about 30-45 minutes.
Baking
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Bake the rolls for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown.
  3. Remove from oven and brush with melted butter while warm.

Notes

For flavor variations, try adding honey, garlic, or cheese. Rolls can be made ahead and frozen for convenience.
