Method
Prepare the Strawberries
- Slice the fresh strawberries and toss them with 1 to 3 tablespoons of sugar depending on their sweetness. Let them sit for about 15 minutes to macerate.
Make the Creamy Layer
- In a bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until smooth. Fold in whipped topping until well combined.
Assemble the Trifle
- In a large trifle bowl or individual cups, start with a layer of cake cubes.
- Next, add a layer of the creamy mixture.
- Then add a layer of the macerated strawberries along with some of their juice.
- Repeat the layers until you reach the top, finishing with a layer of strawberries and whipped topping.
Chill
- Cover and chill the trifle for at least 2 hours, or overnight for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
Keep a few strawberries aside for garnish before serving. Chilling helps the flavors blend and the cake absorbs the strawberry juice. Best enjoyed within the first day, but can last 2-3 days if stored properly.
