Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups All-purpose flour Do not substitute with fancy flour.
  • 1 tsp Baking powder
  • 1 tsp Baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp Salt A pinch goes a long way.
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup Softened butter Room temperature.
  • 1 cup Sugar White, classic for sugar cookies.
  • 1 large Egg Use large eggs for better texture.
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract Can use almond extract for variation.
  • 1/2 cup Sour cream Full-fat is best for softness.
Optional Toppings
  • Frosting For decoration.
  • Colorful sprinkles For extra pizzazz.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a larger bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar together until fluffy.
  4. Add the egg and vanilla extract, then mix in sour cream.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until combined.
Chilling & Baking
  1. If the dough is sticky, chill in the fridge for 1 hour.
  2. Roll the dough out to about 1/4 inch thick and cut into shapes.
  3. Place cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are lightly golden.

Notes

To store, keep cookies in an airtight container to maintain softness. They can be frozen, and if you'd like to bring back their soft texture, microwave for 5 seconds.
