  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk or heavy cream Adjust for consistency
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • a pinch salt

Method

  2. Add powdered sugar one cup at a time to prevent a mess.
  3. Mix in vanilla, salt, and a splash of milk until smooth.
  4. Adjust consistency with more milk or powdered sugar as needed.
Assembly of the Cake
  1. Level your cake layers if they are domed.
  2. Place the bottom tier on a sturdy cake board.
  3. Pipe a buttercream ring around the edge of the first layer and fill with buttercream.
  4. Stack the next layer and press gently.
  5. Spread a thin crumb coat of buttercream around the outside and chill for 20 minutes.
  6. Add another thin layer of buttercream for a semi naked look if desired.
  7. For multi-tier cakes, add supports such as dowels to hold the weight.

Notes

Make sure cake layers are completely cool before frosting. Decorate with fresh flowers safely by wrapping stems to avoid contact with the cake directly. Chill cake before transport to maintain buttercream firmness.
