Method
Make the Hot Honey
- Add honey to a small pot and warm it on low heat for about 2 to 3 minutes until it becomes runny.
- Stir in chili flakes starting with 1 teaspoon for mild, or 2 teaspoons for medium heat. Adjust according to your preference.
- Turn off the heat and let it sit for 10 minutes to infuse.
- Optional: Strain the honey if you prefer a smooth consistency.
Prepare the Butter
- In a bowl, mash together the softened butter, minced garlic, salt, and a spoonful or two of your hot honey until smooth.
- Taste and adjust seasoning as necessary, making sure the flavor balances sweet, buttery, and spicy.
Bake Bread
- Spread the sweet heat butter mixture onto the loaf of bread.
- Wrap the bread in foil and bake at 375°F for about 10 to 12 minutes.
- Unwrap the bread and continue baking for an additional 3 to 5 minutes to crisp the edges.
- For a toasted top, broil for 30 to 60 seconds, watching closely.
Notes
This bread pairs well with soups, pastas, and can be served as a party snack. Refrigerate leftover sweet heat butter for up to 5 days.
