Ingredients
  

For the Pickles
  • 2 cups Pickle chips, dill or spicy
For the Batter
  • 1 cup Buttermilk Store bought or homemade substitute
  • 1 cup All purpose flour For structure in the batter
  • 1/2 cup Cornmeal or cornstarch Optional, adds extra crisp
  • 1 large Egg Optional, helps the batter cling
  • 1 teaspoon Salt For seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper For seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder For seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika For seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cayenne pepper Optional, for heat
For Frying
  • 2 cups Oil Vegetable, canola, or peanut oil

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Drain pickle chips and pat them dry really well.
  2. Dip the pickle chips in seasoned buttermilk batter.
  3. Coat lightly in a flour and cornmeal mix for extra crunch.
Frying
  1. Heat oil to 350-365°F (175-185°C).
  2. Fry the pickle chips in hot oil for about 2-3 minutes until golden.
  3. Drain on a rack, salt immediately while hot, then serve.

Notes

Make the batter right before frying to prevent it from getting gummy. Use a cooling rack to keep fries crispy and avoid overcrowding the frying pan.
