Easy Fig and Honey Tart

Ingredients
  

For the tart
  • 1 sheet 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed) or a prepared tart shell Use store-bought puff pastry for a quick option.
  • 6 to 8 pieces 6 to 8 fresh figs (ripe but not mushy) Look for figs that are fragrant and tender.
  • 1 to 3 tablespoons 1 to 3 tablespoons honey (plus a tiny extra for serving) Honey is essential for topping the tart.
For the frangipane filling
  • 1/2 cup 1/2 cup almond flour This gives the filling its rich almond flavor.
  • 1/4 cup 1/4 cup sugar Add sweetness to the filling.
  • 1 piece 1 egg Large egg for binding ingredients.
  • 4 tablespoons 4 tablespoons softened butter Butter enhances flavor and texture.
  • 1 pinch pinch of salt Balancing the sweetness.
  • 1/2 teaspoon 1/2 teaspoon vanilla For added flavor.
Optional toppings
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest For a zesty touch.
  • a few pieces a few sliced almonds For garnish.
  • to taste amount a dusting of powdered sugar Optional for serving.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Roll the puff pastry onto a baking sheet lined with parchment.
  3. Lightly score a border around the edge so it puffs up into a frame.
  4. Combine the frangipane filling ingredients in a bowl until smooth.
  5. Spread the frangipane filling inside the border, leaving the edge bare.
  6. Slice the figs in half or into quarters, then nestle them into the filling.
  7. Drizzle honey on top of the figs.
Baking
  1. Chill the assembled tart for 10 minutes if your kitchen is warm.
  2. Bake for about 20 to 25 minutes, until the pastry is deep golden and the filling looks set.

Notes

Serve warm with extra honey and optionally some whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Toasted sliced almonds on top make it visually appealing with very little effort.
