Ingredients

For the Dirt Cups
  • 1 box instant chocolate pudding mix Plus the amount of milk it calls for.
  • 2 cups cold milk Ensure it is very cold for best results.
  • 1 container whipped topping or homemade whipped cream Can use half the tub or more for a lighter texture.
  • 1 package chocolate sandwich cookies, crushed Save some for topping.
  • candy pumpkins or orange candy For the pumpkin patch look.
Optional Decorations
  • gummy worms For added fun.
  • green icing For vines.
  • Halloween sprinkles For extra decoration.

Method

Preparation
  1. Crush the chocolate sandwich cookies in a zip top bag using a rolling pin until you have mostly fine crumbs with a few bigger pieces.
  2. Whisk the instant chocolate pudding mix with the cold milk until it thickens. Let it sit for a few minutes to set.
  3. Fold in the whipped topping until the mixture is fluffy and creamy.
Assembly
  1. Layer the dessert in clear cups or small jars: start with a spoonful of cookie crumbs, then a layer of pudding, and repeat until the cup is almost full.
  2. Top each cup with a thick layer of cookie crumbs to resemble dirt, and place candy pumpkins on top. Add green icing lines for vines if desired.
  3. Chill the cups in the refrigerator for at least 1 to 2 hours before serving.

Notes

For a crunchy top, add cookie crumbs right before serving, as they will soften if left in the fridge. These cups can be made a day in advance; just keep the final decorations separate until ready to serve.
