Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm milk Not hot, for activating yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar Plus extra for the yeast
  • 1/2 cup butter Melted, for the dough and brushing on top
  • 1 large egg Room temperature for softer bread
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast Or instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt Avoid direct contact with yeast when mixing
For Serving
  • 1/4 cup honey Optional for mixing with butter

Method

Mixing and Rising
  1. In a bowl, mix warm milk with sugar and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add melted butter, egg, and salt to the yeast mixture.
  3. Gradually add flour until the mixture is slightly sticky but not overly so.
  4. Knead the dough for about 5-8 minutes until smooth.
  5. Allow the dough to rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Shaping and Baking
  1. Roll out the risen dough and cut into desired shapes (rectangles, squares, or blobs).
  2. Let the shaped rolls rise again for about 20-30 minutes until puffed up.
  3. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) while the rolls are rising.
  4. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  5. Brush with melted butter immediately after baking.

Notes

These rolls are perfect served with honey cinna-butter or for sandwiches. They can be made ahead and frozen before the second rise.
