Method
Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a rimmed baking sheet with foil and layer with parchment paper.
- Place saltines in a single layer, edge to edge, on the prepared baking sheet.
Making the Toffee Layer
- In a saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar together over medium heat, stirring gently.
- Once smooth, allow it to bubble for about 3 minutes until glossy.
Assembling and Baking
- Pour the hot toffee mixture over the saltines, spreading it quickly.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 5 minutes, until bubbly.
Adding Chocolate
- Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle chocolate chips over the top.
- Let them sit for 2-3 minutes before spreading into a smooth layer.
Finishing Touches
- While the chocolate is still soft, sprinkle your chosen toppings.
- Cool in the fridge for about 1 hour, or leave at room temperature until fully set.
- Once set, break into pieces, preferring rough shards for a homemade look.
Notes
Store in an airtight container for about a week at room temperature or longer in the fridge. Can be frozen with layers of parchment paper between pieces.
