Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup Butter For richness and classic brownie texture
  • 1.5 cups Sugar For sweetness and shiny top
  • 3 large Eggs To bind and give dense lift
  • 2 cups Cocoa powder or melted chocolate For deep flavor
  • 1 cup Flour Just enough for cake slice consistency
  • 1 teaspoon Salt To enhance flavor
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract Because chocolate loves vanilla
Optional Add-ins
  • 1 cup Chocolate chips or chunks For melty pockets
  • 0.5 cup Chopped walnuts or pecans For crunch
  • 1 cup Mini marshmallows For a rocky road vibe
  • 0.5 cup Peanut butter or cookie butter For swirling

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8 or 9 inch cake pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, melt the butter and mix with sugar until combined.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Stir in the cocoa powder (or melted chocolate) until fully incorporated.
  5. Add flour, salt, and vanilla extract. Stir until just combined, ensuring not to overmix.
  6. If desired, fold in any add-ins like chocolate chips, nuts, or marshmallows.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
Baking
  1. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, checking for doneness when edges look set and a toothpick comes out with sticky crumbs.
Cooling and Serving
  1. Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for a few minutes.
  2. Lift it out using the parchment paper, and cool completely on a wire rack.
  3. Slice and serve. Enjoy it warm or at room temperature, optionally with ice cream.

Notes

This cake stores well and can be made ahead. It tastes even better the next day! Wrap tightly for storage. For serving, consider a warm slice with a pinch of flaky salt on top.
