Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 3 cups self rising flour Ensure it's fresh for best results.
  • 3 tablespoons sugar For balance and better browning.
  • 1 bottle (12 oz) beer Light lager recommended for a mild flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F. Grease a standard loaf pan well.
  2. In a large bowl, stir together the self-rising flour and sugar.
  3. Pour in the beer and stir until combined; the batter will be thick and lumpy.
  4. Scoop the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
Baking
  1. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes, until the top is deeply golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  2. Cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then turn out and let cool longer before slicing.

Notes

For a softer crust, wrap the loaf in a towel while cooling. For a crunchier crust, let it cool uncovered. Optional add-ins include cheese, jalapeños, or herbs.
