Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F. Grease a standard loaf pan well.
- In a large bowl, stir together the self-rising flour and sugar.
- Pour in the beer and stir until combined; the batter will be thick and lumpy.
- Scoop the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
Baking
- Bake for 45 to 55 minutes, until the top is deeply golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then turn out and let cool longer before slicing.
Notes
For a softer crust, wrap the loaf in a towel while cooling. For a crunchier crust, let it cool uncovered. Optional add-ins include cheese, jalapeños, or herbs.
