Ingredients

Pudding Mixture
  • 2 boxes Instant vanilla pudding mix Use two small boxes or one large based on brand.
  • 2 cups Cold milk Whole milk makes it extra creamy, but 2% works.
  • 1 can Sweetened condensed milk This ingredient makes it taste bakery good.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract Just a splash for flavor.
  • 1 container Frozen whipped topping or fresh whipped cream Used for the topping.
Layering
  • 1 box Vanilla wafers These soften perfectly and are the classic choice.
  • 4 medium Bananas Ripe but not mushy, with a few small brown freckles is ideal.
Optional Ingredients
  • 1 pinch Salt In the pudding mixture for balanced sweetness.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, combine instant vanilla pudding mix and cold milk. Mix well according to package instructions.
  2. Add in sweetened condensed milk and vanilla extract; stir until combined.
  3. If desired, add a pinch of salt for flavor balance.
Layering
  1. Start with a layer of vanilla wafers on the bottom of your serving dish.
  2. Add a single layer of sliced bananas.
  3. Spread a layer of pudding over the bananas.
  4. Repeat layering until you run out of ingredients, finishing with pudding and topping.
Chilling
  1. Chill the finished dessert for at least 4 hours, though overnight is preferable for best results.

Notes

For a more appealing look, save a handful of wafers for the top right before serving. If you're using a trifle bowl, keep layers thin for more repeats.
