  • 4-6 pieces Apples (e.g., Granny Smith, Honeycrisp) Choose a mix for the best texture and flavor.
Topping
  • 1 cup Old fashioned oats Make sure they’re not quick oats for a chunkier topping.
  • 1/2 cup All-purpose flour Can substitute gluten-free flour blend.
  • 1/2 cup Brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup White sugar Adjust based on the sweetness of the apples.
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon Add more for extra flavor.
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 cup Butter Use cold and cut into small pieces for a crumbly topping.
Flavorings
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon juice Just a splash to enhance flavor.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Slice the apples and toss with brown sugar, white sugar, cinnamon, salt, and lemon juice.
Topping
  1. In a bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon.
  2. Rub in the butter until the mixture is crumbly.
Assembly and Baking
  1. Place the apple mixture in a baking dish and sprinkle the oat topping evenly over the apples.
  2. Bake in the oven for about 30 minutes, until bubbly and golden.
  3. Let it sit for 15 to 25 minutes before serving.

Notes

For crispy topping, do not use melted butter. Let the crisp rest after baking for best results. Leftovers can be stored at room temperature for one day, in the fridge for up to four days, or in the freezer for two months.
