Preparation
- Core the apples and cut them into 1 to 1.5 inch chunks.
- Toss the apple chunks directly into the crockpot.
- Add 2 to 4 tablespoons of water or apple cider.
- Sprinkle in the cinnamon, and add honey or sugar if desired.
- Add lemon juice, vanilla, and a pinch of salt.
Cooking
- Cover and cook on low for 4 to 6 hours or on high for 2 to 3 hours.
- Stir the mixture occasionally to monitor texture.
- For a smooth texture, blend with an immersion blender; for chunky, mash with a potato masher.
Notes
Best if made ahead and can be stored in the fridge for up to 7 days or frozen for 2 to 3 months.
