Ingredients

For the Rolls
  • 2 cups warm milk aim for 100 to 110°F
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar to help feed the yeast
  • 1/2 cup butter softened, for tenderness
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour measure gently to avoid excess
  • 1 packet active dry yeast or instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt for flavor
For the Cinnamon Butter
  • 1/2 cup butter softened
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar to sweeten
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon for flavor

Method

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add softened butter and salt to the yeast mixture, and mix well.
  3. Gradually add flour, stirring until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth and elastic, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
Shaping and Baking
  1. Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick.
  2. Cut the dough into squares or rectangles and place them on a greased baking sheet.
  3. Cover and let rise again until puffy, about 30 minutes.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 12-15 minutes until lightly golden.
  5. Brush the warm rolls with melted butter immediately after baking.
Making the Cinnamon Butter
  1. In a separate bowl, whip the softened butter, powdered sugar, honey, and cinnamon together until fluffy.
  2. Serve with warm rolls.

Notes

For best results, allow enough rise time for the dough to get fluffy. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or freeze for longer storage. Brush rolls with melted butter after reheating to restore softness.
