Preparation
- Start by cutting the pound cake or sponge into chunky cubes and place them in the bottom of a glass bowl.
- Drizzle sherry, sweet wine, or orange juice over the cake cubes.
- Layer mixed berries on top of the drizzled cake.
- Pour the jelly over the berries and let it chill until set.
- Once the jelly is set, slather custard over the jelly layer.
- Top off with whipped cream piled high.
- Decorate with extra berries or chocolate shavings.
Chilling
- Chill the trifle in the fridge for at least a few hours, ideally overnight.
Notes
This dessert can be customized with different fruits, cakes, or alcohol. For variations, try tropical fruits or different flavored custards. Ensure jelly is fully set before continuing to avoid mess.
