Base Ingredients
  • 1 batch Cookie dough (homemade sugar cookie or store-bought) Chilled for better handling
  • 12 sticks Lollipop sticks (about 6 inches) Use sturdy sticks
  • 1 tablespoon All-purpose flour For rolling the dough
  • 1 large Egg If your dough recipe calls for it
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract For flavor
  • 1 pinch Salt Enhances sweetness
Decorating Ingredients
  • 1 Candy melts or white chocolate chips For coating cookies
  • 1 cup Sprinkles, sanding sugar, crushed peppermint, mini chocolate chips For decoration
  • 1 drop Food coloring Optional for tinting
  • 1 cup Powdered sugar For optional icing (mix with milk)
  • 2 tablespoons Milk For icing consistency

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Chill your dough for 20 to 30 minutes for better handling.
  2. Preheat your oven to 350 F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  3. Roll the chilled dough to about 1/4 inch thick and cut with holiday cutters.
  4. Press a lollipop stick into the bottom of each shape about halfway up and gently pinch dough around the stick.
  5. Reinforce with a small piece of dough if needed for delicate shapes.
  6. Bake for 8 to 11 minutes, until edges are just turning light golden.
  7. Cool on the tray for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
Decoration
  1. Dip the cookie front into melted candy or chocolate, letting excess drip off.
  2. Add sprinkles immediately after dipping while the coating is still wet.
  3. For quick icing, mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla, then pipe it onto cookies.

Notes

Keep cookies thick to prevent snapping, work in small batches while decorating, and transport carefully to avoid smudging.
