Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, egg, garlic, onion, breadcrumbs, parmesan cheese, salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes. Mix until just combined.
- Cut mozzarella cheese into small cubes, approximately the size of a fingernail.
Forming Meatballs
- Take a handful of the meat mixture and flatten it in your palm.
- Place a cube of mozzarella cheese in the center and shape the meat around it to seal. Roll into a ball.
- Repeat until all mixture is used.
Cooking
- Place meatballs on a baking sheet and bake for 15 to 20 minutes, depending on size.
- If desired, simmer cooked meatballs in warm marinara sauce for a few minutes to soak up additional flavors.
- Let meatballs rest for a few minutes before serving to prevent cheese from oozing out.
Notes
Freezer-friendly! You can freeze cooked or uncooked meatballs. For best flavor, use fresh grated mozzarella cheese.
