Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 baking dish.
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, beat the eggs, then mix in the milk, vanilla extract, and melted butter.
- Combine the wet and dry ingredients until just mixed; do not overmix.
Baking
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and bake for about 30 minutes or until golden.
Topping
- While the cake is baking, in a saucepan over medium heat, combine the butter, brown sugar, and milk. Stir until blended and bring to a gentle boil.
- Remove from heat and add coconut and pecans, if using.
Finishing
- Once the cake is baked, immediately pour the topping over the hot cake.
- Let it soak in for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
Best served warm, but also delicious at room temperature. Pair with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or fresh berries for added delight.
