For the dip
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened Full fat gives the best texture, reduced fat can be used if necessary.
  • 1 cup powdered sugar Keeps the dip smooth.
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder A darker cocoa makes it taste more intense.
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract Enhances the chocolate flavor.
  • 1 pinch salt Balances the sweetness.
  • 1 cup whipped topping or whipped cream Makes the dip fluffy and light.
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips Optional for added chocolate bites.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Start with softened cream cheese in a bowl. Leave it out for about 30 minutes if it is cold.
  2. Beat the cream cheese until it is smooth.
  3. Add powdered sugar and cocoa powder, then mix again until smooth.
  4. Add vanilla and a pinch of salt, mixing until combined.
  5. Fold in the whipped topping or whipped cream to achieve a fluffy texture.
  6. Taste and adjust sweetness or chocolate intensity, if desired.
  7. Chill for 20 to 30 minutes if possible, although it can be served immediately.

Notes

If using flour in your version of the recipe, ensure it is heat treated for safety. To do this, spread flour on a baking sheet and briefly bake then cool.
