Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease a 9-inch pie plate.
- Cook the beef and onion in a skillet over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat. Season with salt, pepper, and a pinch of garlic powder if you like.
- Spread the beef mixture evenly in the pie plate and sprinkle 3/4 cup shredded cheddar over the top.
Batter preparation
- In a bowl, whisk milk, Bisquick, and eggs until smooth. For classic burger flavor, whisk in ketchup and mustard.
- Pour this batter over the beef.
Baking
- Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until the center is set.
- Sprinkle a little extra cheese on top during the last 5 minutes for a melty finish.
- Let it rest for 5 to 10 minutes before slicing.
Notes
For make-ahead, brown the beef and onion up to two days ahead. Store in the fridge and bake when ready. Leftovers keep for 3 to 4 days in the fridge and can be reheated in the oven or microwave. For gluten-free, use gluten-free Bisquick.
