Ingredients

Main ingredients
  • 2 pieces very ripe plantains Choose plantains that are mostly black with some yellow for optimal sweetness.
  • 1-2 teaspoons oil (avocado, canola, or light olive oil) Optional. You can omit if you prefer less oil.
  • 1 pinch salt Optional, but it enhances sweetness.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Optional for a dessert flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (193°C) for about 3 minutes if necessary.
  2. Peel the plantains: chop off both ends, make a shallow cut down the length of the peel, and pry it off.
  3. Slice the plantains diagonally into pieces about 1 by 2 inches.
  4. Toss the slices with oil and a pinch of salt for light coating.
  5. Arrange the plantain slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring space for browning.
Cooking
  1. Air fry the plantains for about 8 to 12 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  2. Check for deep golden spots and caramelized edges. Adjust cooking time based on ripeness.
Serving
  1. Serve warm, and add cinnamon if desired for sweetness.

Notes

After cooking, store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the air fryer at 350°F for 3 to 5 minutes for best results. Avoid freezing if possible due to texture changes.
