Ingredients
  

For the Filling
  • 2 medium Apples (Honeycrisp or Granny Smith) Diced small for even cooking.
  • 1 tablespoon Butter For cooking the apple filling.
  • 2-3 tablespoons Brown sugar Adjust to taste.
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon For flavoring.
  • 1 pinch Salt Enhances sweetness.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Optional, but recommended.
  • 1 teaspoon Cornstarch Helps thicken the filling.
For the Dough
  • 1 can Refrigerated biscuit dough, crescent dough, or pie dough Choose based on preference.
  • 1 large Egg For egg wash, or use milk as an alternative.
Optional Toppings
  • as desired Cinnamon sugar, coarse sugar, or glaze For added sweetness and decoration.

Method
 

Preparing the Filling
  1. Peel and dice the apples into small chunks.
  2. In a skillet, combine apples, butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Cook for 6-8 minutes until apples are softened.
  3. Stir in vanilla and mix cornstarch with a teaspoon of water. Add to the skillet and cook for an additional minute. Let the filling cool for at least 10 minutes.
Assembling the Hand Pies
  1. Flatten each piece of dough into a small circle.
  2. Spoon a small amount of apple filling onto one side of the circle. Do not overfill.
  3. Fold the dough over the filling, press the edges to seal, and crimp with a fork.
  4. Brush the tops with egg wash and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
Cooking
  1. Preheat Air Fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Air fry the hand pies for 7-9 minutes, flipping halfway through until golden and crisp.
  3. Let the pies cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Avoid overfilling to prevent leaks. Cool the filling before assembly for easier sealing. If using air fryer parchment, ensure liners are weighed down.
