Ingredients

For the Pasta
  • 12 ounces spaghetti Can substitute with linguine for a different texture.
For the Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil For warming and cooking.
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced Adds flavor to the sauce.
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili flakes Optional, for heat.
  • 24 ounces jarred marinara sauce Make sure to enhance with garlic and herbs.
  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined Sweet and quick cooking.
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley or basil, chopped For garnish and added freshness.
  • 1 lemon squeezed Optional, for brightness.
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese Optional, for serving.

Method

Preparation
  1. Boil the pasta in salted water until just tender, about 8-10 minutes. Save about 1 cup of pasta water before draining.
  2. In a large pan, warm olive oil over medium heat, then add minced garlic and chili flakes. Cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  3. Add the marinara sauce to the pan and let it simmer for 5 to 8 minutes to enhance its flavor.
Cooking
  1. Cook the shrimp in the sauce for about 2 to 4 minutes, or until they are pink and curled.
  2. Toss the drained spaghetti in the sauce, adding reserved pasta water as needed until everything is well-coated.
  3. Finish with chopped parsley or basil, a squeeze of lemon, and a sprinkle of grated parmesan if desired.

Notes

For the best results, avoid overcooking the shrimp; they should be tender, not chewy. You can also prep the marinara sauce up to 3 days in advance.
