Making the Gravy
- Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat.
- If using onion, cook it with the beef until softened.
- Add minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds.
- Sprinkle flour over the meat and stir for a full minute.
- Slowly pour in the beef broth while stirring until smooth.
- Bring the mixture to a bubble, then stir in Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
- Let simmer for 3 to 5 minutes, adjusting thickness with more broth if needed.
Preparing the Mashed Potatoes
- Place peeled, cut potatoes in a pot, cover with cold water, and salt the water.
- Bring water to a boil and cook potatoes until tender.
- Drain the potatoes, then add warmed milk and butter.
- Mash the potatoes until desired texture is reached, not over-mashing.
Assembly
- Serve the creamy mashed potatoes topped with rich beef gravy.
Notes
Leftover gravy can be stored in an airtight container for up to 4 days. To reheat, add a splash of broth or water as needed.
